Student LunchBox Gets a Website Makeover: How a Collaboration with Harness Projects Changed the Game

Updated: Jun 7

Harness Projects and Student LunchBox Collaboration

In today's digital landscape, a well-designed website is no longer a luxury for nonprofits – it's a necessity. However, for many cash-strapped organizations, the costs associated with professional web design and development can feel insurmountable. This is where innovative partnerships like the one between Student LunchBox and Harness Projects come in, proving that powerful change can be driven by collaboration.

Harness Projects, the brainchild of Chris Ventura (CEO) and Mike O'Brien (Co-Founder and CCO), is an Australian organization with a global mission. They connect teams of career-changing professionals with industry mentors from tech giants like Google and Atlassian. These teams then tackle real-world projects for socially impactful organizations – completely free of charge. Mitzi Quill (Marketing & Operations Manager) and Yuval Refaeli (Product Manager) round out the Harness Projects team, overseeing the intricate details that bring these collaborations to life.

Student LunchBox, a US-based non-profit, knows firsthand the challenges nonprofits face in the digital realm. Their mission – to provide meals to economically disadvantaged college students – relies heavily on public awareness and donor support. However, their website, crucial for both functions, was outdated and lacked the user-friendliness needed to effectively communicate their impact.

This is where things got exciting. Through Harness Projects unique model, a team of four dedicated students – Bettina Barnoczki, Georgia Frank, Melissa Dickey, and Sarah Kinsman – stepped up to the challenge. Donating a whopping 540 hours of their time and talent, they completely revamped Student LunchBox's website. Imagine that – four individuals dedicating over 135 hours each, all fueled by a desire to make a difference. With the guidance of experienced mentors from Harness Projects, they transformed a static online presence into a vibrant and engaging platform.

Mike O'Brien, Co-founder of Harness Projects, explains the driving force behind these collaborations: "Non-profits like Student LunchBox are the heart and soul of our communities. They're busy making a difference, but they often lack the resources to invest in a professional web presence. That's where Harness Projects steps in. We connect skilled professionals and students with organizations that can truly benefit from their expertise. It's a win-win situation."

And the win for Student LunchBox is clear. The new website boasts a clean, user-friendly design that effectively showcases their work and the impact they create. Visitors can now easily navigate the site, explore donation options, learn about volunteer opportunities, and gain a deeper understanding of the organization's mission. It's a night-and-day difference from the outdated site they previously had, the website makeover was a success.

The Ripple Effect: Inspiring Future Collaborations

The story of Student LunchBox and Harness Projects is more than just a feel-good anecdote. It's a powerful example of the positive change that can be achieved when collaboration is at the core. It inspires other non-profits to seek out similar partnerships and leverage the talent and resources available within their communities.

It also highlights the value of mentorship. By connecting experienced professionals with aspiring individuals, Harness Projects is fostering the next generation of changemakers. These students gained valuable experience while making a real impact, and they'll likely carry those lessons forward into their future careers.

The Student LunchBox and Harness Projects collaboration is a testament to the power of teamwork, innovation, and a shared desire to make a difference. It's a story that should inspire us all to seek out opportunities to collaborate and use our skills for good. After all, even the smallest act of kindness can have a ripple effect, creating positive change that extends far beyond the initial project.
